Why not? It was awesome driving x-country, only had to make one fuel stop per day, sometimes not even that. This was in the middle of a winter snap with temps between 9F and 36F (mostly in the teens) and crossing plenty of mountain passes.

And even around town it's great, filling up is like a special occasion!

I was thinkin it would make me that much heavier, but it's actually not that much. I have a 24 gallon now and it's tight under there lol. I don't think you could fit a tank that size under an Super cab with a 6.5' box ?

what size gas tank are you talking about? and 700 miles before you hit low fuel light or what?

to OP, the 5.0s only get about 12mpg. thats normal. just be glas you dont have a 351...i had a 78 f150 with a 351 and a 4spd manual and only got about 10mpg and it had normal size tires and it was 2wd. it was geared low before i got it but i dont know what it had for a rear end. K&N drop in filter will run you about $45-$65 but it saves you money in the long run since it has a 10yr/million mile warrantee. just wash and re-oil it(K&N filtercharger kit, another $10-15 but it can be used for 5-10 cleanings) pay $60 once or $12 every time you need a new filter. try synthetic oil and get a good oil filter. keep tires inflated and see if you can get a tonneau cover for cheap in your local classifieds or on here. i almost got one last week for my 08 f150 but the guy sold it. it was only $75. and also if you can get or make a front air dam, it keeps less air from going under the truck so there is less air catching all the parts to create drag. but seriously after all that, i wouldnt expect more than 15mpg out of it. you can try to get better gearing for highway also, that will probably help but thats a little bit of a hit in the wallet, same with cold air intake and exhaust. i like the idea of getting a good economy car for your work. except the cars that get good mpgs are priced higher for the demand so it kinda sucks

The regular tank on the new models is 36 gallons. I'm just saying that if the miles are all freeway I always get well over 700 miles before I fill up. Not sure when the light comes on, I pay more attention to how many miles the trip computer says I have left. It sure is nice not feeling tied to the service stations.

Time is money and a K&N means messy wet cleanings and oiling. But the dirt still goes right through it which is why it doesn't catch piles of sand like a pleated filter does. So, is it really saving you money if you have to clean and oil it on a regular basis and it lets the fine abrasives right into your nice clean oil.

I used K&N's im many vehicles before I figured this out. The 10 yr/million mile warranty is just a sales gimmick and a quality (Motocraft) pleated filter breathes just as well.

My 5.4 '01 gets 15-16 mpg regularly. Mixed driving. All I have is a Spectre CAI and Edge on level 2. But be glad you don't drive my dad's '74 F250 390ci - it gets 5-6 mpg Doesn't matter if it is empty or loaded.

Something is really wrong there. Even that pig should get 10.

My 96 get's 12mpg when I tow. I think the worse I've ever gotten was 11. I normally get between 15-17 when we aren't running this winter blend gas. The very best I've ever gotten was 18. That was a once in a lifetime thing I think because I can't seem to do it again.
