Is my Motor Really Done For
Do you have the HVAC system off? Or do you have the defroster on (turns the A/C compressor)? Turn your vent/heat/air to OFF position and see if you still have the noise from the A/C compressor. Unless the electric clutch engages the A/C compressor, the normal A/C pulley just freewheels. If the knocking sound goes away when you turn the control off, then you probably lost your A/C compressor. If the knock is still there, then you lost the pulley bearing. Either way you need to mess with the A/C compressor, assuming that is what is making your noise.
is the pulley something i can just replace separately or do I need the whole compressor. If I need the whole thing I am thinking about buying an a/c delete pulley this way I can still use my truck and replace the compressor at a later date I never use my air anyways
I'd just get a complete compressor at a junk yard. The A/C compressors usually last a long long time so I'd feel comfortable going that way. Or I'd replace just the clutch with a new cheap autozone one and hope for the best. there about $90 if memory serves me.. doing the delete would cost about the same anyway.
Fixed
Problem was the water pump....however the scarping nose with the ac was a metal brake line that was scraping on the pulley from when i put my lift on....replaced the waterpump and all is good now....next on the list e-fans!!
