Spark Plug Problem

I have a 97 F150 2wd with 194,000 miles.
Truck runs perfectly and still looks great.Religous about oil changes at 4000 mi. Mobil1.

Several months a go upon staring for the first time every day it would miss for about 5 seconds.
I removed the spark plugs (fine wire motorcrafts) and found erosion on #5 center electrode.
I replaced the plugs since they had 64,000 miles. Missing problem solved.
Last night I checked tha new plugs (fine wires) and found slight erosion on the #5 plug center electrode.

Any ideas?
My only thoughts are running a little lean, since I have never cleaned the injectors.

Check the fuel line on fuel injector line #5 to see if it's kinked or smashed, if not try a simple fuel injector cleaner.

What engine? 4.6l? If so, I assume it has ignition wires runnning to coil pacs on the front of each cylinder bank.

Frankly, if it were me, I'd change the ignition wires if you haven't done this before. My '97 4.6l is VERY sensitive to wires that have deteriorated. Replace them ONLY with Ford wires. You can get them a a substantial discount from Tousley Ford (10% over cost) Do a search here to find them. Or, you could just replace #5 wire and plug.

I didn't make any jokes, or it would have been funny. Jeramy pointed out something fuuny lol.

Why are you buying Motorcraft wires ? I thought you had 5 year old NAPA wires ?

Yea, jaymz gave you great advice, - sounded to me like you thought your wires weren't the problem. Wires are a problem, that's why Ford went to individual coils, it was to be an upgrade. Not that it helped all that much lol.

Sounds like your on the right track now.

Thanks- I believe the wires are the problem for several reasons.. I am waiting for a call from Tousley Ford.
NAPA ceratinly has slid down the quality and relianility scale.

It used to be that NAPA parts worked fine on domestics but not so good on imports.
Anymore OEM is best bet for anything but belts, hoses and filters.
