08 4.6 with edge

i have a gone thru 2 throttle bodies after installing my edge after roughly 10k miles a piece each time it comes back from the dealer with voltage resistance problems. i highly doubt this is common but the dealer can give me no answer as to why it is frying them. any ideas?

Hello! How are you?

Hmmmm ... very strange.

Can you post up the codes they pulled and/or the detials of the work order?

I do not think any tuner can 'fry' an ETC throttle body.

I'm thinking, find another dealer, unless by some astronomical coincidence they supplied faulty TB's. Even rarer, a PCM fault.

Try running stock and see if the issue returns to confirm, perhaps?

Without a lot more detail on exact failure mode, this is kinda hard to determine ... very sorry I can offer nothing else for now...

Good luck!

Cheers

Not sure if this is any help, but I have a 08 4.6 with the Gryphon and have put 20k+ miles on it and pretty much all of those were with the Gryphon. I have had no problems at all with my truck.

no codes were thrown but it intermittantly idled from 375-1000rpm.

here is a picture of the work order. let me know if you can give me any insight thanks

im not blaming the edge, but the first one blew after the edge was installed. i dont know if a diode or resister in the TB, harness or PCM is bad but i cant afford to keep having this problem after if fall out of warranty.

Hi.

Okay - I still don't think it's programmer-related.

EDIT - forgot to ask - did you try returning to stock & disconnecting the Edge while the idle symptoms were evident? If so, did it stop doing it or not?

That screenshot helps a bit, as it will give the Ford truck techs on here something to work with.

Problem is, the thread title and the specific forum it's in is not going to let this one get many hits.

Perhaps petition a Mod to retitle it and move it to a more appropriate forum where it be more visible ?

Resistance 'out of spec' at Test Point 1 still looks like a TB issue at this point to me.

Good luck!

Cheers

08 4.6 Throttle body failure

my 08 has 27k miles on and has burnt up 2 throttle bodies. the ford dealer cannot give me an answer as to why this is happening. it starts with a slow rolling idle from 475-600, then gets worse to 375-1100. i would like to figure this out before it is off of warranty. i had en edge programmer installed when the first one went out then it was set back to stock and 8k miles later the 2nd one went out. so im pretty sure its not a programmer issue.

here is a picture of the service invoice from when i picked it up yesterday. it runs fine at the moment but would like to know why exactly this is happening thanks.

I have 16K on the same engine so I am curious... but I am completely stock. Did you unhook the battery after you unhooked the edge to let it reset? It may still have traces of the edge in it.

Based on what you posted the last TB was replaced due to a TP sensor resistance reading being out of spec. Programming cannot affect this.

Good morning fellas! It's Friday!

88racing, sir, the OP started another thread on this issue in the V8 section ( for some increased visibility - I was hoping folks like Paralyzer & Quintin would chime in): https://www.f150online.com/forums/v8...y-failure.html

According to Amanda, the second failure occurred while running stock. This leads me to believe, as Mr. Paralyzer also stated, that it's not a programmer issue in this instance.

I sure hope this can be resolved - boy would I be frustrated having to R&R TB's every 8-10k...

Thanks guys - have a great weekend!

yes, after they replaced it the first time they also reflashed the ECU to make sure all traces of the edge were gone.

Good afternoon MGD!
I didn't realize the OP did an increased visibility option of posting more than one thread in two seperate sub forums.
Thank you!
Have a very good evening!

To the OP if it isn't the tuner then something else is amiss.
