Update the coils and change the plugs, - use Motorcraft plugs.

It's a cheap fix that works. Coils are $76 + shipping, plugs should be around $32.

A good way to tell that it is indeed the ignition is to reboot the PCM. She'll run better for a short period of time, then fall back into the same slot as before,- gradually. Also, make sure that any part of your ignition harness isn't coming in contact with the AC acummulator. That mag field can create havoc with these ignition systems. Pull it away and tie it back.

Thats a lie. The motor craft plugs are made to fords specifications Autolite are not. There have been numerous reports of failures of Autolites on this board going back several years. do a search.

lol, well, their not even close to being on the same level as the Motorcraft. They can't take the heat. Heat range doesn't meet spec for the 97-03. I guess that's why the SAME company makes Motorcraft for Ford. Their produced to Ford spec. Autolites come out of the reject pile.

Autolites aren't fast enough. A plugs net worth is in the speed with which they can transfer heat from the combustion chamber to the engine head. Autolites fail.
