A) That's illegal, and this BBS's user agreement forbids discussion of illegal activities.
B) Read this thread.
C) Why would you want to? If it's seized, read this caption:

Doesn't the legality of removing the emissions stuff depend on where you live? For example, here in FL we don't have to pass emissions tests at all ever. I do not believe it is illegal here to remove emissions equipment, even removing things like cats is fine here. The only thing we get ticketed for is having exhaust systems that are WAY too loud lol...

Even in places that do have emissions testing, if you remove these things don't they just simply not allow you to pass your emissions test? Forcing you to replace the emissions equipment and come back to be tested? I don't think its "illegal" really, I think that you just won't pass your emissions test and therefore you can't drive the vehicle..

It's actually against Federal law to tamper with emission devices.

Really? That's interesting... Never figured it would be "illegal" really, but if it is against federal laws then that would definitely make it illegal anywhere in the country.

Well, then I have one more question. If it is illegal, then besides not allowing you to pass inspection in places where it is required, are there any consequences to removing these things? That's the reason I always thought it was not actually illegal, because I've never heard of anyone incurring any consequences for tampering with emissions equipment, although it's also possible that I have not heard of any consequences because I live in a lenient area in regards to emissions.

Everyone may do it but it's not legal.

its my understanding that any "shop" that is caught removing emissions equipment CAN be fined...do they still do it? Yes especially on old dinosaurs. Emissions controll pre OBD2 was brutal at best and pretty problematic/pointless. If someone was to do it themselves they would have a hard time proving when/who has done it and if no testing is required in your state little would ever come of it. Im not saying its right. But if I owned your year truck and the air pump needed to be replaced, i wouldnt be putting one back in either. in fact its pretty rare to find one still installed...my.02

something to add is that it's only illegal to do so if it is going to be street legal, if it's for off road use such as racing and what not, than it's not illegal, unless your driving it on public roads.

but like steve said it's don't do much but waste time and sometimes money.
