idle issue

idle issue

i have a 1997 4.6 and have been having an idling issue. does anyone have any clues to what this might be?

umm..whats it do? check MAF and IAC motor.

high idle, low idle, rough idle, surging idle... etc..?

the rpms will just drop and sometimes truck will stall.

You may just have to clean the IAC, it can give you a good 20k extra miles, if not just replace it, it's about $60 or less.

i appreciate the input guys. I cleaned the IAC and the truck seems to be running alot better. next time i guess i'll replace it.

well, the idle started to act up again, so i cleaned the MAF, but it didn't help. So tomorrow i'm gonna take apart the throttle body and egr parts and clean them. If that doesn't work i guess i'll go on to replacing the IAC.

I went through the IAC cleaning exercise on my 5.4 trying to save a couple bucks. Same story. Ran fine for a day or two and replaced it. All still fine after ~40K miles later.

yeah i'm thinking it's the IAC. but i'm gonna clean the whole intake anyways, and might even port and polish the TB if i can find find the time.

yea id replace the IAC...i think those are about 150 bucks...thats what mine was for my ranger
