2001 F150 crank-no fire

Hello, I'm hoping someone here can help with an issue I'm having on my truck.

It's a 2001 2WD, Supercab, 4.6, Auto.

It occasionally won't restart when hot. It seems to run fine for weeks back and forth to work, but if I am running around and make several stops, at some point it won't restart hot. It also died on me once when driving down the freeway at 60mph. If I let it sit for a half hour or so, then it will restart just fine.

The first couple times it happened it was low on fuel (about 1/8 tank) so I have been keeping it above 1/4 tank just to be safe. But today it did it with a half tank. I checked for fuel pressure at the fuel rail shrader valve and had fuel flowing out. It didn't restart today though like it normally does, so I think it's really pissed off now! I have no check engine light or DTC codes.

One more little clue, sometimes it has a hard time keeping an idle when starting hot or cold. It's not misifiring, but seems to stall like the idle speed is too low.

I'm guessing it's either an IAC valve or one of the cam/crank sensors. Any other ideas? Do these fuel pumps have issues where they work intermittently?

Thanks in advance for any help you may have....

Sounds like a fuel filter to me.

what was the fuel pressure? The fp could be going bad, pressure Should be at least 35psi, yes! also check your fuel filter, I recommend the oem one.

Actually 29 psi still passes, but that's minimum. I don't think he checked it tho, -think he just opened the schrader and got fuel lol. - Yea, -Freakin Eureka! SG - need some numbers for determination

Easy test, swap the fuel pump relay with the trailer tow backup relay ( in the same fuse panel, under the hood ) and change out the fuel filter.

This would remove quite a bit of part in the chain. Really leaves the Fuel pump, and the Fuel inertia switch.
Also leaves what ever could be in the tank getting pulled into the pickup at the Fuel pump ( leaving less than 29 PSI ).

When you pressed the schrader did it really spray out with some force, or just spray ( no rag or safety glasses needed ) ?

Guess the crank no start could also be the Coil packs (don't think it is COPs on the 4.6 ) acting up. ? I like the others are making an assumption that the air & spark are OK, which could be a bad assumption.
