5.4 engine swap

I have a 98 f150 4x4 with the 5.4 that im constantly having problems with. I was at a swap meet recently and found a 5.4 32 valve dohc out of an 03 lincoln navigator for cheap. Can anyone tell me what i would need and what i would have to do to put this motor in my truck?

you will need to swap to your F-150 oil pan

you will need the complete motor (minus oil pan) and the engine wiring harness, not the ECM, you should also get the navigator exhaust Y pipe or have a custom one made you will also need a custom tune...

other than that it's a direct bolt in

Let me guess, its spitting plugs and your swapping a dohc to fix the problem... if thats true, what if you changed the ecm and maf to Navi specs? Would you still need a custom tune?

since the 32 valve navigator comes with a 4r100 transmission the ecm won't work on a 4r70 trans...

and if you swapped over the 4r100 trans also, you'd need a new drive shaft, and a custom tune to allow the ECM to communicate with the new trucks cluster

so either way you're gonna end up with a custom tune, total cost of the swap is up to you

P.S. the MAF is the same on the F-150 and 32 valve navigator

terajerame, So after the swap, the engine will start and run but will need a tune eventually..is that what you are saying...I have cruised through a lot of the these threads and I have found nothing on that. I am doing my swap next week, Already bought all my parts from a 00 Navi. I think I am good

it will run, but the fuel and timing will be off and I wouldn't risk the motor

Nice, I didn't think so, I'll just buy new ones. Did I see somewhere on here that the exhaust manifolds will be in the same place... I swear I did, but how can that be with the difference in width? Thanks again for all the help.

So, I need help, I am in the process of doing the swap. I need help with the radiator hose setup. Do guys just use the Navigator setup or do they use the rad. outlet off the 2V(block part)? I am missing something on the sidee of the upper plenum that has 4 small bolts? Don't know what that is. Do guys use a Navi radiator and hoses or what? Because I need to get that stuff if they do.
