blew a plug

weirdest thing. drove to the dump to drop some trash off. on the way there truck drove fine. no problems to speak of. stopped and turned the truck off to unload it. got done with that, hopped in and turned the key. truck springs to life but sounds funny. it was instant too, as soon as she started i got that unmistakable, no plug sound. turned out to be #1

couple issues though. upon limping home (20 minutes at 30 mph) i get a closer inspection of what's going on. i pulled the plug and coil before limping home and set them in my truck. upon further inspection of the plug the ENTIRE thing is dirty. threads, ceramic, electrode. thought that was weird (plugs have maybe 40k on them). pulled another plug and it was clean.

another thing was the plug hap NO gap set. the strap was touching the electrode. no way that plug was firing, but again the truck has run beautifully for 40k miles. what caused the gap to close? i swapped plugs myself and know for sure all plugs were gapped.

hoping this is my salvation and that the plug just worked its way loose. the threads on the plug looked fine. no scarring or marks to speak of. when i checked to see if the head was stripped i could get two full rotations and it would stop, it would spin some more but it was a little harder so i didn't push it. think the head is stripped knowing this?

sorry for the long thread. little frustrated right now.

If you can get the plug threaded back in, it might buy you a little bit of time. Eventually, the remaining threads are not going to hold and it's just a matter of time before they all let go. Can't explain the closed electrode...mine was the same way. No idea what caused it. Pretty darn curious though. Only thing I can even remotely come up with is the force blowing the plug out of the hole collapsed it. What else could it be? There's no way the piston hit it. Oh well.

Do a search for TimeSert...the only way to repair that hole. I sent you a PM.

thanks. i really wasn't looking forward to doing that.

the number 1 coil is completely shot. any advantage to buying upgrade coils other than the global automotive ones?

Nah - when a set of 8 Globals costs the same as 1 premium coil, it doesn't make sense.
