Replacing all Fuel Injectors? EBay remanufactured?
Replacing all Fuel Injectors? EBay remanufactured?
I have a 1999 F150 5.4 V8 with about 195k that has been pretty gutless for some time now. I have a feeling that the cat's are plugged, but am also investigating other issues as well. Is it a good idea at this point to replace all fuel injectors? I'm not sure of an easy way of testing them while in the truck. EBay has remanufactured sets of injectors for between $80 and $120 for all 8. These things from other places brand new are at least $50 each. If these are decent quality, then I would rather replace them instead of trying to test the ones on the truck now.
1. Is it a good idea to replace all injectors at this point? What is the likelihood that the lack of engine power is due to bad injectors?
2. Are the remanufactured injectors from EBay decent quality?
Thanks.

Haven't heard any bad as injectors from Ebay, -just make sure you purchase with the right connector. I purchased NEW Type 3's with the updated spray pattern for $65 - New (crate motor take offs). I'm not so sure that's the way to go, -Ford used them as early as 2000 in the crown vics, but they weren't used in these trucks , -ever. Why ? Not sure ? I use to recommend them, I've had no problems so far.
You have a couple options, purchase a Sonic Cleaned set or have yours done. If you can find New ones on ebay, I would go for those if reasonable.
You can clean yourself as well -

Save that site, it's a good one.

usually you will smell a plugged cat as well stinks like rotten eggs. but I would go to a muffler shop to have it tested as the previous post said just to be 100% with that many miles I would not be surprised if they were cooked.

Thanks for all the information. It looks like it may be new injectors and cats this time. I guess with 195k on the truck, things like this can be expected. It's nice having a truck that's paid off. That's why i'm going to do all I can to keep her running.
