99 expdn 5.4 whats the problem???

Ok I have a 99 and I replaced the motor because the old one was locked up. I bought it that way. I now have the new motor in and it runs great as long as its not in a drive gear. Then it will slowly accelerate not like its slipping its like I cant accelerate at all? I do have a check engine lite and the 4x4 like is blinking. If I put in 1st it seems to do a little better but still isnt good...When I have it in D it seems to skip 2nd altogether...when I put in reverse it almost seems normal???WTF...I put the truck in neutral and I can rev-it to the moon put in drive and it seems like 0 power...? anybody had a similiar problem...

I appreciate the feedback..I know I need to get the codes ran but I swear its like I'm afraid to drive it because it has no get up and I may get ran over..

its not going into 2nd? are you sure its not skipping 1st and starting off in 2nd? check the codes, it'll help alot.

that could be a possibility but when I manually put in 1st and drive it then try to manually shift to 2nd it stays in first until I shift it to third...?

If you are afraid to drive it, see if you can borrow or rent a code reader.

In that case, I would drain into quart bottles, preferably clear bottles so you can see.

You can re-use all but the last 2 quarts, - they will have all the contamination.

You can see it with clear bottles.

However, it's not recommended, - I have tho when I was adjusting shift points thru hardware.
