So I'm talking to my Indy Mechanic discussing the 5.4L blowing plugs. He informs me with 63,000 miles on my 01 SCrew it's time to change due to the plugs oxidizing which is the cause of the plugs blowing. How accurate would you say this is?

 

yea i would change them since they're 8 years old, dont use antisieze and (DOH) i never can remember the tq you need to tq them down to, i think the book calls for about 14 ft lbs but they say about 28

 

I would say he is wrong. The 01's come out because of poor torque on a low thread count head.

My 01 Screw still has stock plugs at 137K miles.

 

true dat! and id change mine if they had 137K on them! mine had 115k when i bought this truck and i changed them the day after

 

Still get 17 MPG highway and it idles and runs fine. I plan to replace them soon but my kids and wife keep me pretty busy.
