this winter i replaced the fuel pump just before xmas..took it to boston for March Break and i had to replace the fuel pump modulator...

tonight i just got back home from the city..about 15 minutes later i went to start the truck and she would barely start and once i got it going..it had a wicked smell coming into the cab..it would start and putt putt..once i put the gas pedal to it,,,she stalls...or if i just let it run about a minute she stalls...

would anyone be able to let me know what is going on with this truck..just something else every week..repairs after repairs..i was told yesterday i need a fan Belt,,,Idler bearing and tensioner...and now this..almost time to light a match to it...

 

what engine? milage? and its a new body right? didnt you replace the fuel pump driver module too? how olds your fuel filter? first things first see what its losing- fuel, or spark.

5.4 l engine with about 160,000 kms....its the new body style 04 ...i replaced the fuel pump.fuel pump module and the fuel filter a few months ago..im not really sure what its loosing..once i get it started you can just get this bad smell of fuel...and then when i give it gas,,it stalls,,or if i let it run...it stalls...

 

any codes?
when it stalls- turn the key off then turn it back on. can you hear the fuel pump? will it start back up?

 

not sure about the codes..i dont have the code reader..my engine light has always been on since i bought the truck...something about evap switch..i can get it starting but its real sluggish..then i hit it with a shot of gas..she stalls out on me...

 

I'm betting you may have more codes in there - get them all read and fix them systematically.

 

Have you checked under and around the truck for fuel spills? If you can smell it that bad inside the cab I am sure your nose can get you in that direction.

 

today i went under the truck and inspected everything..i finally found the problem with the truck..

when i got the fuel pump modulator installed in Boston Mass..they Broke the tabs holding the wiring to the modulator and it within time,,it came loose..renedering the fuel pump useless...so ia had to jig up something to hold the 2 together and now its running fine...even better than before..thanks once again for everyones input..much appreciated and this is why i love this site..
