04' screw...5.4 missing?

Sorry if this problem has been posted/asked before, but I have a funeral to attend and no time to wade through the threads. The truck idles perfect, doesn't die, and under WOT, no issues whatsoever. However, when I accelerate slowly, say half-throttle, it feels like the truck is missing, and it'll kinda "jerk" until I give'r a little more. Any idea what may be causing this? At first I thought maybe a throttle position sensor, but, that's just an uneducated guess. I thought maybe I should take the throttle body off and give it thorough cleaning, but...i'm lost guys. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Low grade misfire, usually due to spark plugs and/or coils. If that's 102k on the original plugs, it's almost a sure bet that new plugs will fix it. Be VERY aware of the breakage issues in the 5.4 3 valves. I recommend you have a Ford dealer change them, be prepared for a hefty bill.

Thanks a lot for the replies. I'm gonna stop by my local dealership tomorrow and talk to the service manager about the issue of breakage. Hopefully they're willing to cover the cost if any break, as i've done a lot of business out there. If not, I'll call the dealership in my hometown, where I bought the truck, and see if they'd be willing to cover breakage issues...hopefully I can find a cheap fix! I can't believe that Ford hasn't done a recall on this, as it seems to be a pretty common and severe problem.

A recall takes place when a manufacturer notifies all owners of a specific vehicle of a condition or defect that could affect safety or safe operation of the vehicle.

Plugs breaking off in the head is not a safety concern, so a recall is not warranted.

Well, that makes sense. But, the least they could do is have dealers perform the plug change with no extra costs to the customer. I don't mind paying for the plugs, but it should be on Ford for the breakage. Just seems like a good PR move.

Most dealers these days charge $80 extra for each broken plug.

Why have you waited so long to change them?

I bought the truck with 75k on it 2 years ago. It ran perfect, plenty of power...never even thought about it. I actually drive my wife's car more, as i work on the road, but I honestly just never worried about it. I was just talking to my dad-in-law a few months ago, and I mentioned it was about to turn over. He asked if I was gonna do any major maintenance on it, and i told him i was gonna change the plugs, and possibly drive-train lubes. The truck was serviced and had a full inspection done (supposedly) before I bought it. Lookin back, I wish I would have known about this issue. i have a good rep with the dealer I bought it from, and probably could have had them changed as part of the deal. Oh well, it is what it is! Can't sweat the small stuff!
