Need HELP Quick!

My son is looking to buy an 05 3v 5.4 FX4 with 75,000 Miles. The owner says the cam phasers have been replaced, but the engine still makes the noise.

Should we be looking at this vehicle or should we move on? Planning on looking at it later today, 8/14/09.

Do all the 5.4L 3V's have this issue, or is it due from a lack of maintaince?

Any other help is appreciated.

Thanks!

All I know is I had mine replaced when I got mine used 2 years ago. The noise came back less than a year. There's also numerous members here that have had them replaced only to start again. Most people say that its not going to hurt a thing. Even had a dealer tell me this too. So I just learned to live with my "diesel sounding" truck.

At the risk of pissing off many satisfied owners, I'd advise you to move on. The 5.4 3V has quite a few issues, and the 04's and 05's seem to be the most trouble prone. Noisy cam phasers, sticking spark plugs that break when you try to remove them, bad batch of injectors that leak.............

If you want a Ford truck, stick with a 4.6, 5.4 2V, or 08+ 5.4.

Went to look at the truck tonight and it ran good, cam phaser noise was pretty minumul, something that could be dealt with. We passed on it since it was not a clean truck and probably had a hard life.

The search continues for a nice FX4 around 15k.
