Fan clutch issue help quick please!

I have an appointment to get my lightning swap tuned tomorrow and I fired my truck up and the fan clutch will not release the fan when I hold the rpm's at 2k. My brothers stops the fan in 10 seconds and mine just keeps going?

Anyone have any idea's or is it just bad?

Thanks Dave

Ok then when is it supposed to slow down atleast and not be extreamly loud? Like I said mine seems locked and my brothers 2000 f150 will slow down so you cant hear it spinning when he holds the gas @1500 rpms for a few seconds.

Just swap fans with him to see what difference it makes, if it is good, buy another one

When the engine is cool or even when it is at a normal operating temperature, the fan clutch will partially disengage.

Sometimes fan clutches will fail on you but they are normally quite reliable so this doesn’t often happen. You will find though that a common symptom of the clutch fan failure is the truck overheating when idling.

They never stop spinning, if your engine runs hot, it will stay fully engaged.

Just get e-fans. E-fans will free up about 15 HP.

Eventually I will get e fans for the extra power but I have a appointment today to get it tuned and I dont want the fan making all that noise and not slowing down. This is happening when the engine is cool also?

Well, some do that,- it's normal. I installed a new one w/supercharger fan kit last winter and it does that sometimes.

Ok thanks Jbrew sounds good atleast you have heard them do it before. Does the lightning have a stronger fan clutch for the heat issues with a blown motor?

No problem, Not sure if there's a difference with the L's fan clutch, - probably not.

I've been lazy about getting e-fans. She still pulls anything I put behind her without a sweat.

Good luck with your swap
