he doesnt have them but the problem was something came loose from the valve cover in that thread.

trailpimp- take off the valve cover and see if something is loose under there. it could be simple or it could be something with the tensionors and chain like you were told. btw who said it was the tensionors and chain?

I took it to a repair shop close to my house that has done work for me before on another vehicle. They claim to have worked on these before?
I did speak with another Ford mechanic and he tells me that timing chain stuff is rare since the tensioner is oil driven.

well i havent seen any issues with the 2v tensionors yet. except once and that was because it was all sludged up inside the engine. they are hydraulic tensionors(driven off of oil pressure) meaning if there is sludge build up then it could restrict flow to the tensionors causeing some rattling from a loose chain.

It could be anything - but until you or a technician start taking covers off all we can do is GUESS.

Tech tells me that the baffle from the oil fill spout broke off and was banging against the cam.
What you think??

I believe that is EXACTLY what they found in that other thread I linked you to! It's 5 pages and the true problem wasn't actually discovered till near the end. Did you miss that?

You can lead a horse to water................................

GLC,
If you read my other post, I stated that I hoped it was something so simple. The horse was lead to water and drank, he was just wondering what other water holes might exist??
I do appreciate the link, and the direction to look near the end for the solution. But pardon me for seeking the advice of those of you whom have been here for a while and might know of other issues.
I hope that my posts, along with your prudent advice helps others!

there arent many things that the 5.4 2v really had problems with, they didnt really have any internal issues. if it was a 3v then you would have a few post of things to check.

Have you tried the 2004 - 2008 F150 "Specific" Forum on this site ? I know I would if I was looking for water holes.

https://www.f150online.com/forums/2004-2008-f-150-80/

BTW- glc searched and found for you, not to many will go out of their way. You didn't so much as acknowledge the link or help at first. I wouldn't pardon that, I would move on and help another.

Good Luck and if want help, try being a little more appreciative. It goes along way here.

I don't have a 2004-2008, I have a 2002 which is why I am here.
I do apologize if my sarcasim was taken literally, it was not intended. I do appreciate all the help and advice that I recieved, and if it is of any concern I will explain that I did not at first offer my thanks to GLC because it took a while to read the thread throughly enought to find what exactly he was talking about. At first I was taken back because the thread was talking about a 3v motor, only at the very end did I see what he was trying to tell me.
Finally, I do visit several other forums and there are varied degrees of humor allowed and almost encouraged, I will be more cautious in this one next time.
Thank you!

I didn't mean to give you a hard time.

Aren't you glad that it was something simple and cheap to fix? And to think the dealer in that other thread wanted to sell him a whole new engine.........jeez!

Let's see - 2002 2V? Spark plugs like to blow out - to prevent that, use only Motorcraft SP-series plugs and torque them DRY to 28 ft/lb. NO antiseize. Make sure you grease the COP boots when changing plugs and/or COP's. PCV elbow behind the intake manifold likes to rot out, causing vacuum leaks and lean codes. DPFE sensors can drive you nuts. Other than that, I think the engine is essentially bulletproof. Brew has close to 300k on his 98 and it's still ticking smoothly, and he rides it HARD.
