so I just got back from "the drive" again and the D!*# code came back again!!!. So I thought that maybe the plastic crap was bad and maybe the original aluminum one may be good so I swapped them hoping that all along the lines I found cracked was the problem but still after yet another "drive", after reseting the code of course, the code came back yet again. So now I am thinking that the original Aluminum DPFE was bad and the Plastic one I had on there is also garbage so some how I am going to have to find a motorcraft DPFE. Ford dealer in area quoted me $136 for DPFE from them and it is a plastic one. Mu wife says for me to take it in to someone but I have spent too much time troubleshooting to turn over now and have someone charge me big bucks to fix.

PS both the Aluminum and plastic had voltage readings indicating the DPFE was good. I'm thinking about doing the DPFE aluminum rebuild that I read in a different post earlier before paying $136. I've never had one fault kick my butt so bad before.

Anyone...please...there has to be a hidden secret out there somewhere.

yea thats the one i was thinking.

usmc14- i think all the dpfe's are plastic now, but motorcraft.com shows 2 part numbers for yours so maybe one replaces the aluminum and the other replaces the plastic. where did you see something about rebuilding the aluminum dpfe?

It was the small vacum line that I thought it went into the exhaust manifold or the EGR tube. I'll have to look at it its been awhile.

I've been thinking about it since your post yesterday, and was wondering if maybe it was the ports in the throttle body itself. I was wondering that because it seems it would be difficult to alter the EGR pipe itself.

All they did was clean it out. At first the service writer didnt think they would be able to do it with out removing the Exhaust manifold buy they did it. Like I said its been awhile a and I should have paid closer attention. Pretty sure all they did though was ream out that tube real good.

Probably should let the dealer diagnose it for you. Diagnosis is not that much and it would be worth it for a deal like that..

The Stealer has got all the money they are going to from me for that code. That code about 3 times, after my warranty was gone, they were not getting in my pockets again. I even tried a couple of ASE certified mechanics.
I just stay busy cleaning stuff up. I can't physically do all the work myself anymore, but I have a young man that is pretty good. So we keep learning these things together.
I was a mechanic for UPS back in the early 80"s, but it's a different ballgame now, and I don't seem to learn as fast as I used to.

Sorry for the thread theft.

I'm lucky the dealer I've been dealing with lately is pretty good. They diagnosed my P401 code and fixed it for $75. That was after I spent $150 or so throwing parts at it.

Yes you are very lucky, in a year I gave the stealer over $500 on that code. Then I found this site, and started learning about it.
