broken timing chain guide?

i took my truck to the dealerhip on monday to have the cam phasers replaced - they got the parts in this morning and began to replace them but wehn they put the tool to hold tension on the timing chain it would not go - they looked into if further and found that the timing chain tensioner was broken and that it had to be replaced - to do this they are having to pull the whole timing chain cover off and its going to add an estimated $600 over the origional cost of $1200 to do the cam phasers - i ran a search to see if this is a common thing and did not find any results on it - i was just wondering if anybody else had this problem

btw - my truck is a 05 f150 xlt 4x4 with the 5.4 and over 106k miles

It wouldn't surprise me if it hasn't been maintained properly - oil grade and filter type being quite important.
