What should my RPM be at?

In park, my idle is at 648rpms, when I put it on "D", the truck idles low and does not move on its own. Every single car I have ever owned will start to move w/o pressing the gas pedal. (on "D")
Is this normal? I mean even on a down hill I have to give it gas to have the truck move.
I just think that is weird....

These engines develop torque at a little higher RPM than some other brands. It's all in the torque converter. With a load mine don't start pulling till about 12 to 1500 hundred. It is just a difference in torque curves. IMO

My Dodges and Chevys start to pull at about 800 to 900 hundred RPM.

Mine rolls when I let the brake off while idling.. Do it all the time while stuck in traffic! It'll do it while I've got my TT hitched up and I'm on level ground too..

Maybe your brakes aren't releasing all the way? Or you just have a loose TC?

Not sure off the top of my head what my rpms at idle are, but it's probably 600 or so at least...

Like I said I have owned many vehicles (I suffer from carrotitus) and none have ever just stood still when placed on "Drive" even on a level pavement. I have to hit the pedal to make the truck even begin to move...

Re: sig - if you are putting a pic in the sig that's larger than 100x500 pixels, the mods may be disabling it.

Your 07 has drive by wire electronic throttle. It's going to feel different than a vehicle with a mechanical throttle. Due to tightening emissions standards and fuel economy requirements, the stock tune is not always the best for drivability.

I will go out on a limb here and suggest that your truck should move forward on flat ground in Drive at idle. As suggested the parking brake may be stuck on. If still under warranty contact the dealer and ask why it doesn't move.

I can drive mine at idle, not very fast mind you but it moves. My idle drops to just below 700 when it is warm. I haven't tried to see what kind of grade I can go up.

No pics on sig but thanks for your help...I just came back from the dealer and the mechanic stated what glc stated, "my truck has drive by wire electronic throttle"...which explains why it does what it does.

thanks everyone......

I understand the concept of 'drive by wire', but I just don't see how that would affect whether or not it rolls while in D and at idle? I mean, it's a set idle and the TC is spinning, right?? Whether the throttle is controled by a cable or a servo shouldn't matter at that point?

To me it sounds like the TC is setup to not engage at all until it's set 'stall' speed? It could very well be designed that way for whatever reason, but I'd hate that... Just for the example of being in traffic, when the line starts to just 'creep' foward, all I have to do is let off the brake and not even touch the gas.. It starts to roll and then I can either time the distance or have to hit the brakes again... I see these guys who hit the gas, speed up and then hit the brakes over and over again.... And they probably complain about their MPGS! ha, ha! I'm just idling along....

Well, at least you know where you stand on it!

i have a 07 5.4 and before i added a programmer the stock idle in n was around 700 and d was around 650 and when i would let off the brake it would move forward by itself and after sitting in traffic for a while when its hot outside the engine would idle up even more and i could take my foot off the brake peddle and it would get up to around 10mph and shift into 2nd gear and get up to around 15mph. when i added the programmer i set the engine idle to around 700 n and around 540 in d so it would not do this anymore so now i can take my foot off the brake and it will just sit there untill i give it just a little tap.
