Need to replace EGR tube on '93 F150 5.0...

Need to replace EGR tube on my '93 F150 5.0 Tube is cracked and sending exhaust into engine bay. Liquid wrenched the upper intake bolts and labeled all sensor wires and ready to yank out the upper intake to take it out.

Question is: There is a bolt or something opposite the outside middle bolt of the upper intake manifold

Looks like it has a torx head http://www.xccelerant.com/AUTO/IMG_2758-2.JPG

Is it some sort of torx bolt?

Anything else I should keep an eye out for?

thnx

yup thats a bolt. i'm pretty sure a 40 torx socket? just make sure you use a magnet to keep the bolt from falling down into the engine.

Yes, it's a T40. Use a hand file or die grinder to remove a little of the Aluminum intake plenum near the bolt head if necessary for the driver. There's no chance of it falling into the engine until the plenum is up.

If it's not off yet, beware of the support brace stud on the R side of the plenum - at the top of the bar that goes down to that ex.man. The nut that holds the ground strap often seizes on the stud.

Thanks guys.

Steve83: Yes noticed it was a tight fit to get to the T40 head. I was thinking of reaching in and putting the torx on the bolt then running a long extension, but that would seem like a bitch to do. Dremel sounds like a better way to go.

Already unhooked the support brace. Sprayed liquid wrench last week on all the bolts and everything is coming off easy. Then again lets see how the torx goes.

While I have the upper intake off I figured on replacing the injectors. Saw some Pythons for around $60, any pro or cons? Any recommendations?

Also the valve covers look like crap (rusting) and can't find any stamped steel ones. Will any mustang covers work?

I wouldn't change the injectors, unless you can find some reman-ed OEs. No aftermarket for me. But if yours aren't giving you any trouble, just leave them alone. They're not maintenance items, and they aren't known to go bad. Change the fuel filter & get some Berryman's B-12 Pour-In from Wal-Mart.

I doubt Mustang VCs will fit, but there should be plenty of trucks in the JYs with them. Call around or spend an afternoon getting dirty. You can probably find new direct-replacements from Summit, Jegs, LMC Truck, RockAuto, or Ford e-tailers like http://www.teamfordparts.com/partloc...?siteid=214270 .
