Ticking noise drivers wheelwell??

I have an 04 5.4 3V with 66,000, got it around 50,000. There has always been ticking under the hood. Stuck a stethascope on the on the passenger cam phaser and heard it ticking, but not on the drivers side.

I stick my head under the drivers wheelwell and sounds like a diesel with ticking. What is the noise I'm hearing in the wheelwell area? I only hear it on the drivers side and not the passenger side.

Thanks in advance,
Shep

It's more than likely a cam phaser. Look at the link in my sig for explanations of the noises these engines make.

Saw you're from Va. Beach. Both my parents went to HS in Va. Beach. I used to go up there every summer to see my Grandma.

Hey Shep, get it up here on the Peninsula, and I can fix it for you. Full shop at the house. These trucks have loud fuel injectors that cause some of the noises people are concerned with, the other thing is the phasers. Phasers are about $250 each. I can replace both sides for $400 labor plus parts. Could do it in an afternoon.
