5.4 quit help!!!!!!!

I just drove 419 miles to come home the last 5 miles my engine light began to flash and engine backfiring. Could not get over 20 mph to get off road. Turned off engine now starter will not even engage noticed sparks comming out of tail pipe right before I shut off motor. 2005 f150 5.4 102000 miles oil changed every 3000, transmission fluid changed at 90000. What could this be before I have it towed to a mechanic. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That doesn't sound like something simple - get it towed. The first thing that needs to be done is a code scan.

Just guessing it could be the injectors. It is an 05 and they had a recall.

Not a recall, they increased the warranty to 100,000 miles AFAIK. Yea, they usually don't go out this way. It may have tho. - The PCM may have just shut them down if they stuck open. Kind of contradicting, but that may have happened. I would try rebooting on the road and head right to the dealership if you can.

Yea, who knows with an 05 tho - a few plugs may have come apart. Could be very serious, better tow it.

Yeah - if I had to guess, it needs injectors, plugs, and cats. Prolly oughta borescope it and compression test it too - that does NOT sound good. Backfires, sparks out the stack, and now it won't turn over?
