Question Ignition Coils / 2001 S/Crew / 5.4 Vin L

Well, I made a huge mistake. I washed my engine. Now, when the engine heats up it starts to stutter. It runs fine when first starting but after driving it a mile or so it starts to stutters bad, almost to the point of shutting off. I have taken off all the ignition coil and fuel injector electrical connections and blown them out with compressed air.

Last year I had to have two ignition coils replaced due to stuttering. This just happened, it was not related to washing the engine or anything else. These things are freaking expensive and difficult as heck to get access too. I'm about to take it up to the mechanic to find out what codes this thing is putting out but I'm kind of worried about the motor mounts with all the vibration from the stuttering. Have any of you experienced this after washing the engine and what do you suggest it may be that is causing the stuttering? Thanks! Rich

Word to the wise....don't wash your engine!!!! It seems so many of these washed engines turn into nightmares!!! Water and these motors just don't get along.

I would check all of the electrical connections as likely there is something has allowed the moisture inside of it. I would check all the coils, IAC, TPS...etc. Are you getting a CEL? If so get that read and maybe that will lend some clues. Otherwise try to drive it hard to force a CEL.

Good Luck!!

Did you blow out the spark plug wells? Check the connectors at the TPS, IAC,Cam Sensor and Crank Sensor.

Just ride it out till it throws a code. You're going to have to replace the COP + plug, and you can get a set of 8 (or individual ones for a little more) for pretty cheap on ebay.

Does anyone know the BEST bang for your buck on COP set?? The ones on eBay are $230 for the Accel ones. Are these any good??? Is there a place that sells a kit (with plugs/grease)???
