2005 5.4 Triton NO TORQuE???

I just bought a 2005 SXT F150 4x4 with the 5.4 Triton. I have no low end torque???? Stock exhaust and no motifications have been made. I put it to the floor and it slowly takes off. I tried it in first gear (automatic) and it still wouldn't take off. Once i get up around 30 it is better. Still not what you would expect.

The truck is spotless and the price was great. Surely i can fix this issue!! HELP!!!!!

How many miles? I'd start with a tuner they can make the fly by wire throttle more responsive. Basic maintenance to air/fuel filter. If it has near 75k I'd do the plugs..

There are a number of reasons why the throttle response isn't up to par.

- The fuel filter is clogged
- The air filter is dirty
- Time for a plug change
- Faulty injectors (known defect for 05's only)
- The throttle body might be caked with carbon buildup due to the EGR

and the list goes on...

sounds to me like he thinks torque automatically means speed.

from what you've given us here i'd say there is nothing wrong with the truck. it is a truck, not a race car.

don't floor it from a start. give it about half throttle and slowly work your way up from there. this might help things out a bit.

also, look into exhaust, intake, and tune. these will help as well.

What's your axle code on the door sticker? How many miles on the truck? Stock wheels and tires?

OK i stand corrected. It is a 4.6. To answer the Axle question. The door sticker says 19.

I don't intend to drive it like a race car. However, it is missing speed on the low end. Even when you try to get it in to the passing gear on the interstate it hesitates, then slowly speeds up. Something is missing.

You have 3.55 gears - that doesn't help on the low end.

For the 3rd time - how many miles on the truck? We can't see your odometer through the Internet.

well the 4.6 was never a fast motor to begin with. you can definitely make it faster. i'd start with an edge tuner. that should help with the lower end. and... yea, how many miles are on it?

If you want more speed out of your 281, install the whole line of bolt-on's :

Intake
Exhaust, including long tube headers
Custom tuned programmer
4.10 gears

47k shouldn't need anything major - maybe just an air filter and fuel filter. You might want to borrow an OBD2 scanner and see if there are any stored DTC's.

I drove a 2004 5.4 after lunch. It feels slugish also. But you get up to speed pretty fast!! I just got out of a Nissan and it would pull you to the seat. It must be how the Ford is geared to accelerate smoother. I really don't think the Nissan is getting up to speed much faster. Just a much different feel. It is just going to take some getting used to! I am, hopefully, going to make some modifications to the engine but have some asthetics to tackle first!! Bring on the wheels and tires! Thanks for all the help!!

Wheels and tires, if they are larger than stock, will make it WORSE - you might want to think about regearing - and that's gonna be close to 2 grand.

Ya i'm planning on 33 x 12.5 on the stock 17" wheels. So it will not help much! I will look at regearing. This stuff is going to get expensive!
