'07 4.6 hesitating on start up..

hey Yall..

i have an 07 4.6 that has been hesitating on the startup for the last 6 months or so.. Not all the time, but enough to make me wonder what the heck is going on..the truck has 40k on it..well maintained and never been in for warranty or recalls...

Can this thing be ready for plugs already? possibly stuck injectors?

I have put a thrush muffler and have done the 'DIY' intake mod...but the problem was happening before that..

Any help would be great..I am sure I will end up at the dealer, but if I could go a little more educated it would be nice.

Thanks again..

There is a TSB for rough idle.
The dealer will reflash pcm, but if you have a tuner set it to stock.
I had a similar problem and this fixed it.

it does idle rough too, but my first concern is the starting...It's like it won't catch..I turn the key and it turns but hesitates for a few seconds to fire..This bothers me with only 40k on the truck..

Could it be fuel filter already?

Thanks again..

My 06 does this, you arn't alone.

Do you have the electronic throttle? People may tell you your rough idle is IAC, but if you have electronic throttle, you don't have one.

Change out your fuel filter, it's unreal easy. Did this and it about cut my long start time in half. It still takes a little longer to catch then I would like, going to be doing spark plugs soon.

its most likely that your not cranking it long enough. or the fuel is leaking down slowly. everytime i drive my 93 it starts right up, then i go to my dads 06 f350 and i just turn the key and let go(cause thats how quick mine usually starts) and it either hesitates to start or doesnt start and i have to crank it again. IMO nothings wrong but thats just me. i've seen plenty of people complain about the same thing and its just that they arent cranking it long enough.

It cant be him not cranking long enough because the 07's all you have to do is turn the key for a split second and it will crank until the engine starts whether it is half a second or 3 seconds.

his hesitates to start. i'm assuming he means that it just fires a couple cylinders and then stops. if he holds the key in the start position until it actually starts running then it should stay running. or turn the key on and off a couple times to prime the fuel system and see if that helps. or hold the gas pedal to the floor until it start, this will tell the computer that the engines flooded and will shut the fuel system off.

This is my third f150, so I am pretty sure I know how to start one by now..I can sit and hold the key in the 'on' position and it will continue to turn but not turn over..I'll swap the fuel filter and check my plugs..And go from there..

Thanks for the help..
I'll be back if this doesn't help

Have your fuel pump checked, the check valve. My wifes expo did the same thing, woudl take a wile to start. It was the check valuve in the fuel pump , what it does it when you turn the engine off it closed the fuel line to so the fuel doesnt go back in the tank keeps the fuel line pressureized so when you start there is fuel in the line, if the check valve is staying open its letting fuel go back to the tank and when you go to start it it takes a wile for the fuel to travle from the tank to the engine.

Fuel filter should be changed every 15,000. I would start there then move on. My truck had a rough idle around 50k, and replacing the fuel filter solved it.

My 4.6 will hesitate every once in a while when I try and start, but 4.6Punisher said, I don't lose sleep over it.

ETA: Where do you buy your gas?
