Signs of engine miss?

Occasionally under WOT my truck almost seems like it's bogged down and like it's getting way to much fuel like my fourwheelers seem do when they aren't warm. It won't pull nearly as hard and stumbles for a couple seconds, and sounds no were near the same. Is this what people say is an engine miss? This is my first vehicle so I'm unsure of what the real problem is. Spark plugs maybe?

06 5.4

I'm not sure what is exactly going on here, but your like the third person this past week that has the same problem with the 2004 + models. I've read about this problem many times in the past, but unfortunately the resolve has never been posted that I recall. Sorry, no help :o - But maybe someone who knows will post up

Yea it's really not a big deal but I could see this happening when I really need to blow past a chevy and be sitting there with my motor bogging down.

I have an 05 w/5.4, and I had a similiar problem, it could be your Fuel Injectors or coil on Plugs, which I have had both of those fail many times on my truck Causing it to hesitate, and bog down.

Maybe it is a Clogged Fuel Filter also or just Crap Gas.

If your Truck has No mods on it, get a Cold air intake, I have an S&B and it Really Woke up the Motor, and also a Good Programmer and Exhaust too.

Take it in to the Dealer and tell them that you are have hesitation problems and getting bad fuel economy, and if they are a "good" Dealership they will Check the fuel injectors and the COPS, and if they are Lazy they will just hook the Computer and Believe what it tells them, With out pulling the Injectors or COPS.....( I am speaking from experience).

good Luck

Funny you recommend the CAI/Exhaust/Chip combo, I have all three. I was hoping the Gryphon would help but it didn't and I've had codes in the past but none as of late.

How hard is it to check fuel injectors? I've helped change spark plugs on a Tahoe before but that's about it motor wise so keep that in mind.

Fuel filter was changed 5K ago.

Those injectors have leakage problems. Ford extended the warranty on the 05 models (only) to 100,000 miles because of these problems.

The 06 - No such luck, but there's been many reports of the 06's with the same problem.

To check the injectors yourself here's what you need to do - Disconnect the battery/Pull the fuel rail/ make sure all injectors are inserted into the fuel rail and free from the manifold exposing injector bottoms.

Reconnect battery/ turn key to run (not start)/ now check each injector for leakage. If any or all are leaking- their bad.

So with fuel lines/rail pressurized (KOEO) - no leaks/drips/nothing.

Even if the truck was produced in 05, I believe that's when mine was produced.

Hmmm I'm going to have to see how to do all that stuff and give it a go sometime.

Edit:Also, every week or so(maybe) I have to crank the truck 2-3 times before it will start. The other time it simply won't start, and has done this for quite some time. Is there any relation between these two perhaps?

Edit #2: Since I'm on the subject, I got pissed at this guy who was riding my *** the other night and mashed it to get away from him and look behind me and I see smoke. It might smoke a little at startup every once and awhile when I drove it really hard the time before but not any other times that I've noticed. I know some cars tend to produce some smoke when WOT and that's the case for me as well, or atleast it was the other night, is this ok?

Mine does almost the exact same thing. Waiting to get the money or guts to change those damned spark plugs. Dealer tested my injectors and say they are OK. They said MAYBE its the spark plugs. Then they wanted $480 to change the spark plugs - that's if none broke.

Yep, that's the first thing I would do if I owned a 3 valve. Replace those junk injectors and install ONE PIECE plugs.

No buts, doesn't matter how it was running lol..
