What kind of sound does the worn tensioner make. There is a faint noise coming from under the alternator coming from my 4.6, it has 196,000 on it.
The alt, water pump, and the tensioner on the serpentine has already been replaced.
It has a light dryish sounding, scraping noise. It is a faint sound, but I have considered that the timing tensioner on the 1 to 4 side of the engine, is where the noise is coming from.

It usually sounds like a really loud lifter(if it is losing oil press). The tensioner is just above the AC compressor on the pass side and just below and to the right of the alt on the driver's side. The tensioners can also lock up causing the chains to rub through the guides making a scraping noise. Only way to tell for sure is to remove the front cover to look.

I havent quite figured out if that is where the sound is coming from. But it is very faint. A light rubbing sound is the best way to describe it.

Thanks for the reply.

Black, that is considered normal on Ford's end. Make sure the proper oil and Motorcraft filter is used. Ford will not stand behind something that hasn't had the proper oil changes, or wrong filters installed. Remember, these engines rely entirely on oil pressure to operate properly. If you miss oil changes, the engine will sludge up, and not allow proper oil flow.
