Fuel Problems

Hi Everyone i have a 2004 5.4l, it recently started having problems when it hits about 3000 rpm it starts to starts to surge and you cant get any more speed or rpm. I read the codes on my edge and it says lean bank 1 and bank 2, fuel rail pressure. I figured out on my edge it has a display of the fuel pressure, at idle it is about 40 psi and at WOT it drops down to about 8 psi So im think it has something to do with Fuel Pump or the fuel pressure regulator. It did it to me in the winter but i just figured i had ice in the line so i didnt worrie about it, but now it is back. i replaced the fuel filter to but that didnt help .Is thier any other test i can do to figure out what is causing this? without pulling the fuel tank.

Thanks Evan

if you have the new body pickup then you dont have a fuel pressure regulator. you have a fuel pump driver module which controls the pressure. how dirty was the fuel filter? the fuel pump driver module is located by the spare tire on a little cross member. i dont know where you live but they rot out from all the salt up north so you may want to pull it and see if its rotted through. every one i've seen fail on here, it wouldnt send much if any fuel to the injectors. try pulling your edge out of it and see if it changes.

So i pulled mine off today. the back wasnt bad but i found a crack in the plastic, so i figured i would replace it. i put the new one on and went for a drive and the truck is still doing the same thing. I really dont want to pay the 400 bucks for a fuel pump. is thier anything else i can check?
