what year is your truck? points havent been around since like the early to mid 70's. just want to make sure your getting the right ignition upgrade. i dont know a whole lot about the pertronix systems but i would assume that there system is built to run with there coils so i would assume that it would recommend it but it should be alright with the old one(if its the same style coil). so are you doing the turbo 5.0? or 5.8?

This is coincidently(sp) another 302 i built for my 89 short bed regular cab truck. the motor is out of a 69 mustang. Currently running points on it just because i didnt have money at the time for a decent ignition system. But yes i am totally sold on the forced induction 5.0 for my pre-runner. Just not sure if im gonna turbo or supercharge. I think that the supercharger will be the way to go for reliability.

ok so your going carburated then? it should be alright then. i'd get there coil though, just to make sure it all works good together. and i dont know about the supercharger being better for reliability. it all depends on how you drive. if you power brake it'll be about the same. if not then the supercharger is instant power to the wheels when you push the accelerator. can cause more damage to the drivetrain. where a turbo has to spool up first. plus turbos are better for fuel economy.

My dad and I just replaced his points with the Pertronix ignition on his 66 289 mustang. It made a hell of a differnece in starting and just running better all around. I would go for it.
