Crankshaft Position System Variation Not Learned
I have been getting this code on my truck lately. It doesn't throw the check engine light on but I see it when I read my codes with my XCAL2. Does anyone know if the crankshaft position sensor is a likely cause for getting this code? The engine in my truck only has about 10,000 miles on it. Any advise is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian

I was told by a mechanic that a relearn can't be done on a Ford truck, only a GM truck. Does anyone know if this is correct? What type of scanner would I need to do a relearn? Would it only be one that would be found at a mechanics shop? One that is very expensive?
Thanks,

Fords have drive cycles that have to be completed to clear a code and put the monitoring in Ready mode. Different cycles for different systems.
If the crank position sensor was at fault the check engine light would be on and more than likely the truck wouldn't start.
I would say your XCAL2 has a glitch.

I have an SCT Scangauge and it gives me the P0315 code also. Is it pretty safe to say that my truck would be acting up if my crankshaft sensor was bad? I would think so. I put a new motor in my truck a few months ago and I'm wondering if this is the reason I'm seeing this dtc code.

My instrument cluster isn't working at the present time, so I have all kinds of fun issues going on. I'm having a guy try to see if he can fix my instrument cluster tomorrow and he told me he wouldn't charge me if he couldn't fix it. I thought that was a heck of a deal. If he can fix it, he is going to charge me $125, which I really don't think is too bad at all. I did buy an instrument cluster the other day so I guess I will take it to Ford and have them program it and install it if it comes to that. I really don't want to go the Ford route. I guess if this guy can fix my instrument cluster, I will be able to sell my newer cluster on Ebay for $60 or so. I hope all goes well.

P0315 can be caused by a faulty sensor or damaged Crankshaft Pulse Wheel. Start by inspecting the crankshaft sensor. Unfortunately to inspect the wheel the front cover has to come off.
