DPFE Hose Routing?

I posted this yesterday but got no response. So, sorry for the re-post but I'll try it here. Maybe it belongs here actually...?? Thanks for your help

Hey guys. I had a brain fart this afternoon and forgot which hose went to which port on the DPFE sensor. Anybody out there know? I have the updated plastic sensor. 98 4.6. Thanks!

Nevermind. I didn't realize the hoses and fittings are two different sizes. Just match em up!!

Was yours Plastic to begin with ? It could of been - Two different sensors were in use for 98 (so they say), - personally, I haven't seen a 98 with a plastic DPFE before.

But yea, one's metal cased and the other plastic. If you did indeed have an aluminum part at one time, these sensors should not be interchanged - further, the plastic has a modified voltage output in comparison to the aluminum and you'll have problems.

Thought I would mention - just in case.

Thank you for your reply jbrew. Yes originally I had a metal sensor and I told that to the parts guy. He said that this is the updated sensor for that one and now its plastic. Sounds like they don't make metal ones anymore.

Huh, I haven't heard about that change yet, If you have problems with it - TOMCO sells the Ford Aluminum replacements.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info about TOMCO. Hopefully this sensor will work. Yea the guy at Ford said there are two types of sensors for this truck. Tube mounted, or bolt mounted. I have the bolt mounted type and he gave me a plastic bolt mounted type. I guess we'll see how it works and for how long?!?

Yea, now that's strange. The only tube mounted I've seen was on the 2000 models. It went for one year - then was eliminated.

He's probably right, just because I haven't seen that type installed on anything but a specific model, doesn't mean there aren't some out there.

I've seen stranger things, - an elite few of these trucks didn't come with standard EGR systems. More so on the F250's, -and they weren't removed - came that way from the factory. ??

I know there's another plastic type that looks like the Aluminum - but it's plastic and bolts down and I under the impresion it went from 99-03, I must be wrong on that. ??

The tube mounted sensor I'm thinking of looks like this -

---------------------------------------------98 STOCK ^^^

3 Types of DPFE Sensore were used in total from 97 -03.

Yeah they do some weird stuff with these trucks. I replaced my egr valve and it was a** backwards. Ended up getting a 99 model one and it fit just right. Crazy huh. Either they changed it sometime in 98 to a 99 style or the guy at autozones an idiot...either ones possible I guess.

I'm having the same problem. My code that was initially kicked off was the P1406. I discovered that the hose was never reattached by the mechanic when I had the #7 coil replaced. However, the hose was split anyway so I purchased new hoses and a new DPFE. I matched the hoses up the way the old one was but not sure if they're correct considering what happened when I discovered the problem. Which is the upstream and downstream on the sensor and the pipes?

I also forgot to re-attach the plug to the sensor and it now kicked off a P1401 (voltage) code. My bad but I think that was just becasue it wasn't connected obviously. Also, how do you safely reset the code. Disonnecting the battery is not something I'm sure of (meaning: which wire do you pull? Positive or negative?)

Yea, High is the big one on the back.

Ref = the small one in front.

On the pipe - High is the bottom, Ref is the top.

lies! i had my whole rear end on the dinner table next to the watermelon.

Jbrew, i found somethin of interest with my p0402 code... apparantly there is a difference or a "mishap" of some kind with my vac harness. the code has not returned yet after swapping the vac lines on the EGR solenoid valve.
