I got a 5.4 thats converted to coil packs and they are due so i figure ill go with MSD, should i get the blasters too? Any gains or improvements, throttle responce? Thanks

 

i guess i dont understand how it works much but im looking to do the best ignition i can.

 

Why would someone convert to coil packs? I dont think spending money on extra expensive coils is going to gain anything except a lighter wallet.

 

because i did the 4.6 to 5.4 swap and it was my only choice with the harnesses that i had. and Msd ignition was only $70 a piece for 2 and COPs are 199.99 from jegs made by Accel for 8 of em'. I know its more nice to only have to replace them individually as they go out but thats what a 2 year warranty is for! Which puts out more voltage?

On a side note, what was i supposed to do when i did the swap to use the COP harness that came with the engine when i bought it?

IMO its pointless to get the msd unless you have a high performance engine. there really wont be much of a gain on a stock engine. maybe 2hp tops. and the same goes for the cop's. accept the accels are 199 bucks for pure junk. plus you can get all 8 cop's on ebay for 80 bucks. go onto rockauto.com and see what kind of deals they have on there right now for coil packs.

in that case then go ahead and get the msd if you want. pretty good deal. i havent heard any reviews on there coil packs yet so i dont know how good they are but i've never seen them make anything junk, so who knows. i guess we'll find out how good they are

 

I've seen more trouble than its worth with aftermarket "performance" coil packs, plus they really do almost nothing on a stockish vehicle. You only need enough juice for the spark to jump the gap, you only really need more when you have enough cylinder pressure (like high boost) to require more voltage to do so.

If your COPs are working now don't waste money, if they are old or bad go on ebay and look for global-automotive, I just bought a set of 8 for ~$70 after looking around and seeing many recommendations. Mine are working perfectly.

Yea, Frod has coil packs on that 5four. As far as packs go, I've heard good stuff about MSD. Yea, not much info on coil packs here. - Consider that a blessing lol.

OEM or MSD and OEM plug wires as well.
