Shudder while driving!?

Hey Guys,

I'm perplexed, I've never felt this before on a vehicle. I have an 01 F150 4x4 with 75k miles on it. I've never had a problem with this truck- I love it. However, tonight, I went to a buddy's house, and when I hopped in it to come home I noticed that every time I hit the gas, I was getting a weird shudder/hesitation. I guess it was similar to constant rear wheels slipping but I know they weren't. Any clues? My first instinct was tranny or plugs, but I'm not a doctor when it comes to this...

Low grade missfire. Was it by chance raining? Old coils and old coil plug boots really hate the rain. That would be my first guess. Probably getting due for a tune up (coils plugs..)

It depends. Low grade misfires are most noticeable under light acceleration right after it shifts into OD. It could possibly be the tranny - time for a fluid service? It could also be LSD shudder or worn u-joints.

I'm hesitating to think it was the tranny, only because it appeared out of nowhere. Not once have I experienced something like this in this truck and boom, all of a sudden it's shuddering which I would imagine was more electrical than anything but not sure.

It aint the tranny. Get some of them E-bay coils (search "DG508" on E-nay youll find them) Get some Motorcraft NGK or denso plugs. Use lots of dielectric grease to water proof them. If you not good with a wrench just have the dealer install your parts that will save you allot to.

since you had 1 bad coil you might as well replace the rest because they will most likely all start to fail 1 at a time. you can get a full set of 8 off of ebay for 80 bucks if you choose to do the rest. just like jethat said just type in dg508 and it'll lead you directly to them.

When did you change your fuel filter last?? It sounds like it could be the filter, they will act the same way.

I'm going to agree with matts ford. I'd at least buy all the coils and change them on a nice day when I have nothing to do. At the very least, you have them on hand. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
