Siting at Taco Bell and It wont start

So I just put gas in it and washed the truck and now it wont start. Just a light rinse nothing fancy with the engine or anything. It started at first but idled around 250 rpms (yes that low) and then just shut off,now it wont start at all. Any help would be appreciated

motor? mileage? how olds the fuel filter? when it idled low did it still drive normal? do you have any kind of tuner? did the engine get wet at all? do you hear the fuel pump at all? have you tried giving it a little bit of gas while cranking it? have you tried priming the fuel pump a couple times before cranking? does it even crank at all?

Fuel

Yea basically what matt said, we need a lil more info. If its the fuel pump you should be able to go and have someone crank the truck over while you pound on the fuel tank with a hammer. (modestly) try that and see if it starts if it dose its your fuel pump, if it trys to start its your fuel pump. Let us know.

Its got the 5.4l 168,000 miles. I changed the fuel filter at about 150,000. No tuner nothing aftermarket at all. The engine is dry. It ran fine coming in after sitting about 5min, it just wont start. Seems like it wants to but wont.. like there's no gas. But if I let it stand for 5 or so min. it will try and turn over, but then dies. I just checked some of the fuses. Is their one for the fuel pump, I assume so but dont know where. Thanks in advance.

it may end up being the fuel pump driver module. they are rusting out causing them to fail. its above the spare tire on a cross member.

Same thing happened to me a month ago.
Acted like it was starved for fuel.

Called for a tow but, had to wait two hours.
The tow driver knocks on the window, wakes me and says,
"You what what Ford spells backwards? Driver returns On Foot."

He steps in and says, "Let the magic Chevy hand try it."

It fired right up.
Moral is, if your strapped for cash let the truck sit a couple of hours.

Sure sounds like it could be a fuel filter stopping up. With 18,000 on the filter, it's probably dirty and maybe some bad gas just finished it off. He just bought gas.

A little bit of STP gas treatment will fix many problems, and regular use of the stuff will flat out prevent them.

Water is pretty nasty stuff in the fuel system, and the STP takes it all out. Cheapest insurance you can buy.

no the fuel pump driver module is on returnless fuel systems yours is a return system. how old is you fuel filter? are you able to hear the fuel pump? are you getting any fuel to the rail? if so how much? are you able to hear the relay and can you jump the relay? are you using the factory key?

Thanks Matt,

I wrote another email about the same problems the OP posted, checked the relays, fuel filter is new, Air Control Module is new.

When it does not start, I cannot hear the pump. But wait an hour or two and it starts like nothing is wrong. I am afraid I will be changing the pump but am confused as this is not a complete failure as I expect the pump to be. Why does it go if I wait an hour, it should be dead all the time.
