Swapping oil filters

Can someone answer a quick question for me. On a 98 f150 with the 4.6L can I change the FL-820s oil filter for the FL-1A they look the same diameter just the 820s is a little shorter.

Thanks

No, my understanding is the FL-820S is metric threads, and the FL-1A is SAE.

Correct! Different thread size. If you went with a remote filter you could then run a FL-1A (or equivalent) filter since 99% of remote kits have 3/4 x 16 threads. I think the 820 has 1.5mm X 22...does that sound right? Either way, as HyperGT mentioned, the 820 is metric threads and they do not cross over.

So your saying that with a remote oil filter I should be able to switch. Because the truck in question has the remote oil filter. So would it be easier to just check the threads to make sure.

No, if it has an 820 on it now, a 1A will not work. You would need a different remote.
