charging issues....

one day i was driving and i melted the 12V big postive that goes to the starter onto my header. shorted out the batt. so i got a new wire new termnials and a new batt. well that was a week or 2 ago....the other night i noticed my batt gauge wasnt were it was normaly and when id flip on my E-fan itd drop but wouldnt come back up. the alternator isnt even 6 months old. took it back to were i bought it they gave me another one on warenty put this one in charged fine at 14.43 volts but the next day my batt. light was on the dash. then last night coming home from the movies i watched my batt. gauge go from 12....to 10.... then i droped my g/f off then i watched my headlights dim even more stuff on the dash was shutting off i got a block from my house and my truck died. grabed my moms car to jump it but when i got to my truck it had 12 volts so it stated but when runing was only at 9 volts.

Did i just get a bad alternator? the place i bought it from isnt a big name chain store its local and they normaly have better parts than autozone n all them. Any ideas? me n my buddy are gonna take the alternator back and get another one i guess or go to autozone n see if it works. Thanks again guys

did you get the right size alternator? it sounds to me like you got a bad alternator. what brand was the alternator? i know alot of mustangs are having almost the exact same problems with alternators from advance auto.
