egr restriction code = great milage

egr restriction code = great milage

ok well the other day i was driving back to college campus and my service engine soon light comon i was like wtf lol but i busted out my snap on brick and it told me it was somethin like code p0401 or somethin like that but any ways it was an EGR restricted code and i filled up the next day and drove all weekend and 17 MPG all weekend with my 02 f150Fx4 with a 4.6 i didnt change any thing not even my driving habbit i was shocked is this normal i think i aint gonna fix it till i absolutly have to for inspection lol any one else get this or am i just nuts? lol thanks

Yea, most likley everyone on this site has had that code once. Hit the search bar and type PO401 and you'll have more info than you know what to do with.

You have no idea of the way the functions work that generate the codes and what possible changes in motor performance 'might' occurr.
It's way more complex than you think.
I won't try to explain it or predict what you may have possibly saw as a result.
For everyone else, don't run off and make this some sort of gas mileage trick that it is-not and have people come back here with an "I heard" statement or question about it.

I wonder what college would accept that as a written answer on an assignment.

Dude, you (or your parents) are paying a ton of money for a college education. At least pretend you are putting it to good use by demonstrating a satisfactory command on how to use the English language for written communications.

sigh.....

That's just what I was thinking as well. Reading that post gave me a headache.
