Engine whine/rattle with short videos- a/c compressor pully?
Hi guys, I've done a bunch of searching and it seems like it might be the a/c compressor pully or the idler pully, which I think was replaced last summer, so I'm leaning towards a/c compressor. I attempted to take a video, but I can't find my sd card, so it's internal memory only, so the video is very short. Will try to post a longer one if I can find it. I'm trying to avoid bringing it to a shop, so if I can narrow it down and show up to my cousins with parts in hand that would be ideal. As far as temperature goes, yes it's winter here in MN, but it's not from just being cold, there is a rattle and it's so loud outside it causes everyone to stare. Some of the whine may be due to it, but last winter it wasn't like this, so I know it's something else. Any help is appreciated. Thank you
Here are the clips, 1 is of me starting it and rev'n up then running up front to hear the noise and then the vid stops, 2nd is just from up front hearing kinda a rattle mixed with a whine..

Sounds like power steering pulley/pump to me, but it could be AC, water pump, etc. The only way I was able to tell which one was making the noise was to stethoscope it. My loud one was a tensioner pulley of all things.
I used a 3' piece of 1/2" round stock and held it on each pulley while she was running. Hold it up to your ear and you'll find it. It works! You can use a long screw driver or something like that. Long and metal works best.
Watch out for the fan tho, I've been bit twice! - I think I even did the wtf sob dance once of those times, even did a digit count.. That smarts!

kinda sounds like my old p/s pump did. only mine had that low fluid gargle sound to it too while it was full. they have a tsb on some years about the idler pullies i think. maybe check it out.
hey, i just realized my girlfriends dad has a couple stethoscopes, he'll be here tomorrow so i"ll have him birng them with. sweet, thanks for the tip! Then maybe if I get brave enough I'll try to narrow it down. the garage i'd be in is like 20 miles from anything, and thats a town of 300, so not much for a parts store.

- Then all you need is a few big Band-Aids handy
Nah, I have a stethoscope - a doctors one, but it won't do yuh much good. An automotive stethoscope is what you need.
Honestly, just something long and metal works great! Really does. Just let it ride as close to pulley you can - then the other side to your ear, you'll hear just that pulley. The bad one will be VERY noticable.

So i was looking in my garage for something metal and long to stick on it to listen, no luck, we just moved into this place and I only have pretty basic tools. I was up close listening, and the noise seems to be coming from the top left hand side, maybe 1 of those pullys on that side, doesn't seem like it's bottom right hand like the p/s pump is. is the 2nd pully down with the londer arm the idler pully? And would any of these pullys make that loud of a wine sound? maybe both are going out? the sound is my p/s and the rattle is the idler??? What do you guys think? Thursday I'm going to my cousins but not sure if I should pick up the p/s pump, or what I should do...
the wine changes a bit, not drastically. the rattle doesn't stop... I have been looking everywhere for my SD card so I could make a longer vid, but no luck.
Ok so 2days ago I took it to my uncles, and I had my g/f follow me, stopped 40 min in to put a little gas in, and the battery was dead, so I was pretty sure it was the alternator, he tested it today and it was bad. So he is going to pick up a new one tomarrow, and hopefully that's all that's wrong.
