serpentine belt replacement

my serpentine belt is squealing like crazy on my 1997 F150, and its time to replace it... so I have 2 questions.

1. Best belt to use?
2. any tips for a first time belt replacement? i have never swapped one out before.

Gates -

Gates suggests replacing the tensioner at the the same time - Good Idea.

http://www.gates.com/file_display_co...3%2D0796%2Epdf

To remove - 1/2 breaker bar/release tension @ tensioner/Insert breaker bar end into square inlet on tensioner ("B").

Three 10mm blots remove tensioner if replacing. Very easy.

Belt routing is stickered under the hood. Sticker missing? Here -

I like the Goodyear Gator-back belt. But that Gates belt looks good too.

BTW- Count the ribs on your existing belt, there's 6 and 8 rib. Not sure which one others may have, I think most are 8.? Normally two sizes apply w/AC or w/out AC.

Must be nice. Wait till you try the 2004 and up trucks with the new 5.4 liter motor. I did mine by myself in about 30 minutes - and was fresh out of bad words when I finished.

I was referring to the write up. Yea, the belt doesn't take that long either. On the 97-03's anyway. I haven't had the pleasure with a 04 plus, fun ehh.

Does this mean replacing the entire tensioner assembly, or just the tensioner pulley? I have a new belt and tensioner pulley which I ordered some time ago in my parts box ready for the day I want to put them on.
