Advice on 4.6 Engine Build
I'm with JMC and Gotts,
Cost the same to build the 5.4 and you end up with more power and all kinds of options for supercharging!
There is a very limited supply of supercharger kits for the 4.6. Why spend all that money only to start off handicapped.

I'm not 100% sure when it happened, but I'm pretty sure it happened when I T-Boned a guy in a Corsica that turned left in front of me. I drove away, his was totaled. The shop straightened my frame and put on a new bumper, but I never noticed the cracked block.
All I need is a block and rotating assembly for the 4.6 rebuild.
With the 5.4 I need a computer, tune, wiring harness, exhaust, intake, the list goes on and on.
It's more expensive to do the swap....
You don't need a 5.4 computer,your computer will work.
Your going to need a tune anyway,,,PI 4.6 is not going to run proper with a non PI tune!
You can use your wire harness,,,but for a 5.4 wire-harness and an intake manifold,,the price is very reasonable considering the extra power.(lot of guys have that stuff just laying around looking to get rid of)
You would only need to weld a very short piece of exhaust on to make that work.50 bucks at any shop probably.
If your thinking of putting in forged parts,,,you must be thinking of supercharging.
Only thing for the 4.6 is a centrifugal or turbo.
The 5.4 you can get a centrifugal,turbo,twin-screw,or roots blower!
It's your truck,,you do what you want.We are just trying to give you some good advice!

The problem I am having is finding the 4.6 Windsor Block. The Romeo is easy, but the Windsor I will have to go to a junk yard which doesn't thrill me.
My other option is to get the Romeo and the Forged Internals for it.
A block ,rods, crank, and pistons are about the same price.

Uh,,yeah,,,if ya want to try to customize a Mustang kit in a truck.
KB dose not make a kit for the truck anymore. You would have to find a used kit and I had one and was not impressed with it.

i pretty sure JMC and Phil said it as best as it can be put, since your getting a new intake manifold anyway all you'd need is the 5.4 front cover and you'd have a better platform to start with and upgrade on later down the road
I will keep the thread updated, the project got put on a small hold... The hardest part of this project is finding a Windsor block. They don't make them anymore so you have to get a Romeo block if you want to go new. The problem with this is that the Romeo block is cast different so your Windsor internals won't work with it.
As far as the 5.4 hype, I don't buy it. The 4.6L build is just as good as the 5.4 minus the aftermarket community. The 5.4 can potentially have more torque than a smaller motor but HP is going to be the same and I already have a lot of the parts to work with.
I still plan on doing this soon, the woman wanted a deck and pavers for the patio so I put the truck on the back burner, but I'm almost done with that project and can focus once again on the truck.
