Fuel Pump Again
Fuel Pump Again
i just had my Fuel Pump changed on Dec 18 and i took it into the garage the other day to make sure it would run good for a trip to Boston MAss...10 hours Drive....When i got to Maine..i fueled up and then she wouldnt Start...I grabbed it by the side and gave her a good Shake..she started up and ran good for the rest of the trip...I am now sitting at my Motel in Boston Mass and my Truck wont Turn Over...i tried the same thing but nothing this time...Could my Fuel Pump be Shot again So Fast...or what is wrong with my truck...Thanks
First off, does the engine crank but not start? You said it won't turn over, in the technician world, that describes one that won't crank. You turn the key and nothing. If you turn the key and the engine cranks, but won't start, try beating on the bottom of the fuel tank around the middle while somebody cranks the engine. If it fires, the pump is faulty. It could also be a faulty fuel pump relay instead of the pump. If you still have the owner's manual, look up the relays, it will be in the fuse box under the hood. After you find it, find some other relay you could do without(make sure it is the same shape), like fog lights, AC, etc. Switch out the relays and see if it starts. Good luck.
Thanks BigBronc....the engine cranks..but it looks like its not getting fuel...Once i got it started the last time...She ran good all the way from Houlton Maine to Boston...ANd when i got here it started a few times..and now nothing..i will check the relays today...thanks once again
well...Today i went outside and she started again...About 10 minutes later she stalled..I tried starting the truck and it still wouldnt Go..i tapped on the Fuel Tank,,Checked all fuses and switched relays..and she still wouldnt go...I had to get it towed to the Ford Dealership in Saugus Mass...i think the fuel pump went on it again..I am hoping its not,,but it kinda looks like it...same problems as before..So i am stuck another night in Boston...Just hoping that it dont cost me the rest of my vacation money to get er fixed...
when you had the pump replaced, did they look inside the fuel tank? maybe its got alot of crap in there and when you shook the truck it pulled most of it off the bottom of the pump or shook everything loose inside the filter. just maybe. i've seen a tank with freakin peanuts and sugar and other crap(looked like someone dropped a snickers bar in there
) in someones toyota one time and it plugged up the pump and the filter and kinda messed with the injectors. have the dealer take a look inside the tank if it is the pump.
edit: it may actually be the fuel pump driver module. they dont get along with rust to well and its getting to be pretty common up north. this was this guys problem https://www.f150online.com/forums/en...any-ideas.html

Interesting read.....
Check you're fuel driver module
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK for any of the do-it you're selfers on here this might be worth checking before you end up with a no start or driveability problem.
04- up f-150's have a fuel pump driver module that controls current to the fuel pump on a returnless system. There have been alot ( mostly in northern states I think ) of failures with them.
The problem is the modules case is made from aluminum and mounted on a steel crossmember. The module builds corrosion where it mounts and fractures or erodes the case then either the circuit board breaks or it shorts from water entry. I have seen a few that get so bad that it actually breaks in two.
If you want to check and/or fix you'res its fairly simple.
First lower the spare tire, then just foward of the spare is a crossmember. The module bolts just left of center on this crossmember's top side ( kinda angled to the rear slightly ) Its a aluminum case with a plastic cover and a connector coming out of the top, its prob 3x5" and 2" to 3" thick. Its the only electrical component on the crossmember I believe so its pretty easy to find.
The fix is pretty simple, remove the two bolts securing it to the frame and inspect the underside for damage. The new modules come with studs and nuts to mount it so it spaces it from the frame and creates an air gap behind it. What I would do is simply get two longer bolts and prob 8 flat washers (4 for each bolt). I believe the bolts are m-6x1.0 .. so I would get prob m-6x1.0x30 or 40 length. I havent done it yet so I am unsure of exact length but that should do. Then bolt the module down with the washers spacing it from the frame and reassemble.
Seems to be more on earlier models but I think they are all affected, just havent had enough time to build corrosion. I have heard of alot of fuel pumps being replaced from this problem.
Hope this helps anyone affected
Good call Matt !!!!
