Fan roars on startup?

I had my fan clutch replaced on my 08 Expedition 5.4 while the dealer was chasing a squealing sound-didn't help- and now on cold startups my fan roars for 20-30 seconds when cold. It didn't do this before and my 07 didn't do this either. What do you think is going on?

Give it a little time, the new one does that here at 40 degrees and colder. Not so much anymore. Not sure why. I installed a Ford factory part. I haven't noticed it lately , - at first I did tho.

Well now the fan roars while driving too. It sounds like the engine is struggling with the fan being very loud until I give it a lot of gas then it goes back to normal.

Yea , that doesn't sound right. I know the sound, but never had that happen. My new one just did that for a short time, right after start - maybe for about 2 minutes when new when cold.

Doesn't do it at all now. You may have a bad one, I hear quite a few vehicles do that - Loud roaring sound. Somethings not right, shouldn't do that - Specially when cooling isn't needed. It's sticking. Thought it may be a break-in period, maybe not.?

Yea - The trick is getting a good set up. Some set ups have controller problems.

My fan roars also. It started about a week ago. it does fine at first but when it warms up it stays on all the time. My temp is fine so I don't know why it is running. It roars at all speeds, from take off to 60 it stays on. Guess I need to have it changed. If it's not to hard I can change it myself but don't know if I need any weird tools to change it. If I have to buy tools just for this job I might just let the shop change it.

Just fixed the same problem with my truck. And like the OP mine started with the truck squealing horribly. The squealing went away, but then the fan clutch was locked up.

I was able to use some massive channel locks to grab the bolts that hold on the fan (they make a tool for this, but I'm lazy) and use a huge pipe wrench to grab the shaft. Pretty simple repair, and my truck no longer squeals or roars

Mine wasn't coming off, I just removed the pump and the clutch fan and pump came off as one. Pump was old anyway and a new was cheap.

take a lesson from me keep the relay far away from heat, I had mine right next to the radiator where the hot air would almost always hit it and I burned about 4 relays in less than a year.

also if you have a fan hooked up for your condenser have it hooked up separately so it turns on when you turn on your AC
