Knock Knock 5.4

I have an 2007 FX2 that sometimes sounds like a diesel. I finally brought it into the dealership where I bought it for diagnosis. The service tech told me I should always use Motorcraft Oil Filters not the generics sold at oil change shops. He said something about keeping the oil on the top of the engine??? He said give it 1,500 miles and the engine ticking should go away.

Is this a line of bs or what?

Think hes talking about the anti-drainback system the MotorCraft FL-820 has. It allows your oil to be ready to go upon start up instead of waiting a few seconds to build pressure.

You should always use a Motorcraft or other filter with the antidrain back. That said your problem may be cam phasers they are a problem on the 04+ 3v engines. Search cam phasers on this forum.

What type of oil filter was on it, when you took it in?

Stick with MotorCraft Filters FL-820S, it is the only filter that has been on my truck & will only be on my truck!..........The MotorCraft 5w-20 Oil is very good also!.....

It's not so much the anti drain back valve, although that is a part of it, it's more a matter of lesser filters breaking down and the paper filter media stopping up oil passages to the cylinder head.

I have also noticed if you are not running a motorcraft filter that it shows it is holding less oil pressure on your gauge cluster.

I'm not sure what your saying there are you saying the oil gauge goes up higher? Thats not possible the oil gauge is really just a dummy light it always stays the same.
