Pilot bearing problems!

I've a got problem. A big problem. So i decided to put a new clutch in my truck and i decided to swap out my pilot bearing because the one that was in there felt pretty dry. Well i went to use a slide hammer to pull it out and when i used the slide hammer on it, it broke the edges on the pilot bearing that slide hammer was grabbing on to so i can get the slide hammer to pull the bearing out. So then i went on to try and do the axle grease trick. I thought it actually worked but i took a second look at it and noticed the that grease just blew out the rest of the center in the bearing so it shot the needle bearings out. now i have barely anything left to work with to pull this **** out. anybody have any ideas?

so you have just the outside of the bearing left? that sucks. maybe try a flat screwdriver and pry it out little by little. other than that i would try to break it. if you have any wd40, pb blaster, zep or anything like them i would spray it with it.

year? motor?

Did you try rotating the puller arms 90 degrees to grab another spot on the bearing? I use a screw type puller as it applies less shock on the bearing surface.

its on a 302. and i've rotated my slide hammer many different times to get it to grab and its busted the bearing down so much that there's nothing left anywhere for it to catch so it can pull out. I've been trying to bust it with a hammer and chizel for a couple hours now with no luck.

Seems like I had to chip one out once. They get stuck and you gotta persevere and just get it out however you can.

I have had to chip some out. A real PITA. A very sharp chisel is the only way I know of. Once you get a cut made through it it should pull out. Be careful to not pound too hard so you do not damage the thrust bearing.

This worked for me once. Pack the hole with grease, and use a steel dowel the exact diameter of the hole to pound it out.....in other words force the grease behind the back of the bearing with the dowel and a hammer, and the bearing will pop out around the steel dowel.
