Help! I have $6000 to spend on new engine

I have a 2000 f-250 with the 5.4 engine. I need to replace the engine and i have 6 grand to spend. It's a daily driver work truck but I want to add more HP. I was thinking of :
1. Lightning conversion = over $6000
2. Used engine and supercharger = over $6000
3. Used engine, headers, cam, and TB = $5-6000

I'm looking to get over 300hp. Need help with suggestions and not sure if #3 would put me in the 300hp range.

That's allot of money for just 300 hp. - Stock , your at 260. Long tube headers is atleast 20 , - 30 tuned.. E - Fan about 15 hp /Intake (count that in with the headers) . Your over 300 . You'll need a custom tune to dial the mods in. Figure +10 more after leaving the Dyno.

Your not doing the work right ? Reason for the 5-6000 / option 3?

the right way, yeah its 6k ballpark.

i had my long block assembled for uhm, $1700, complete forged lower was $1500 the L intake was $1100, plus all of my other parts for the L conversion which is where the cost adds up super quick.

I do realize that i can put that money down on a new truck but I personally like my paid off truck and just want to modify it to my taste. 6k is alot and then again it all depends on what your trying to do.

I'm looking for 300hp at the wheels.

I was looking for some dyno #'s for a cammed 5.4 engine.

Sounds good to me. It's gonna be a little harder to accomplish with the 3/4 ton. Is it a 4x4. ? Don't those have the taller rear gear , like 10.75 ?

No, it's not a 4x4. I'm really hoping the header, TB, and cam will do it. I'm also going to get a tune on a dyno. If anyone have any other ideals please chime in.

V-10 conversion. You have an F250 so you might be able to find a decent totaled doner truck.. You could get it out of an f-350 to.

headers and cams (plurl we have 2). wont do it. If you want to wake it up, throw on a set of decent ported heads as well and you will be knocking on the door of 350rwhp depending on the cams you go with. Cams on stock heads are not worth it at all, net you like 10rwhp. I also think that your truck being a 2000 doesn't have the PI heads. I believe they came out in 2001 on the superduty 5.4's.

Do you think PI heads work better with some cams?

I'd find a used procharger run a 6.0 innercooler and a 3.40 head pulley, 255lph in tank fuel pump, 90mm MAF, 42# innjectors, long tube headers, a good 2.5 inch exhaust a FTVB (if you have an auto) and call it a day after refreshing your current engine (new rings and bearings if you can get away with it) have the heads ported and run a comp cams 102500 (I see 'em on ebay for fairly cheap)

but it ain't my truck

The original post said that you need to replace the engine. Why is that? How many miles, and what problems do have that might require a new engine?
Are you capable of doing the work yourself?
