05 Cam Phaser Failure? Is there any warning?

My truck has had the same noisy idle since day one. Was told numerous times, it is normal. What are the signs of these things failing, do they give you warning, or do they just fail..... What mileage have they been going bad at? I have a 05 5.4 truck built in april of 05. I currently have 65000 miles with no warranty.

cam phasers arent anything to worry about. the noise is just a noise. it doesnt hurt a thing. if you have a ticking noise its probably just the injectors ticking which is normal but be careful because 05 5.4's had a bad batch of injectors so once you have a misfire or rich conditions then take it to the dealer right away.

I just got mine back, two weeks ago, after being in the shop for a month. I had two injectors fail open, filled motor with gas and blew the motor. they put in a short block, but the rest of the motor, including the phasers have 65000. I'm just wondering if I keep the truck, how reliable is it going to be. And what type of repairs are in the future with this truck.

If the phasers didn't fail early on, they probably won't. You will know when they do, it's LOUD. I hope they changed all the injectors.

Nope just two injectors, They said not to waste my money, when ford is going to cover damage from injector failure up to 120000. Not to crazy about the thought that at any moment, on expy, it can happen again at 70 mph. It seems ridiculous they wouldn't replace the 6 remaining, and risk another $5000 engine repair.
