throwing codes

throwing codes

anyone have an idea why these codes came up? what's it going to cost to fix?

2004 f-150 5.4 100190 miles.

p0340 camshaft postion sensor A
bank 1 circuit malfuntion

p0012 camshaft postion acuator A
bank 1 timing over retard

p0345 Malfuntion camshaft postion sensor A
Bank 2 circuit malfuntion.

UPDATE

well my pickup has been to the ford dealer a total of 4 times, they can't figure out why the timing is bad, so now they are ripping into the motor... should be a nice little bill. great

what are my options on motors? i dont think i want to go back with a 5.4...

well theres the 4.6 if you want less power. then theres the 6.8 v10 if you want more power and some modifications to make it fit. i'd personally stick with the 5.4

but see what the problem is first

You have the new body style with the 5.4 3 valve. You have yourself a cam phaser problem most likely due to sludged up conditions and the camshafts can't adjust the timing properly. Yes, it is going to be pricey. Both phasers and phaser actuator valve bodies will have to be replaced and the engine retimed. Unfortunately, the best bet is to replace it with the same engine due to computer and wiring harness issues if you decide to replace the engine.
