Weird...

ok, so im driving down a back road near my house and my trucks check engine light comes on. it acted like it wanted to cut off, kind of jerkin a little bit, going in and out, but it never cut off. Also, when i got on the throttle, nothing happened, unless i, very slowly, pushed down on the pedal. If i stomped on the pedal or got on it even a little bit, nothing would happen, the RPM's didn't even rev up. So, obviously i had to get it towed because i couldn't make it go. The mechanic, who is a cousin and very good friend, said that he has no idea what it is. He had to back the truck for two blocks to get it into the shop because it wouldn't go in drive.

So... Does anyone know what this could be? Any advice would be great, thanks in advance.

You should know already. What kind of Mechanic is this guy ? All you have to do is scan it.

He backed it up - I would have at least tried to reboot real quick first.

It's probably the TPS sensor or filthy MAF.

Well I guess you have to instruct the mechanic to read the DTC's - That's what there for, - to tell you what's wrong.

Good Luck.

x2! probably a tps or dirty maf. put a scanner on it and get the codes. and if the scanner used has a data display then see if the tps is reading properly.

i guess i forgot to mention it (although i thought people would be smart enough to know that the first thing he did was scan it)... and nothing showed up... he said he was going to try scanning it again just to make sure... oh and he is an incredible mechanic... he's never let me down

we only know what you tell us, so you have mentioned mention that a scanner was put on it on the first post. did he see if the tps was reading? is the jerking a misfire? when was the last tuneup done? what brand plugs? was dielectric grease used? motor? mileage?

yeah i guess i should've mentioned that first... anyway im not sure what all the scanner read because i am up at school now, which is about 2.5 hours away. But the truck has 156,000 on it, but nothing has ever been wrong, and the day before it did all this it was running strong, just like always. It has the 5.4L V8 and the last tune up was when i got my oil changed last, which was about 4000 miles ago.

do you know what brand plugs were used? if it was anything other than motorcraft ngk or denso then that may be your problem.
